Orthotic Devices

Prescription orthotic therapy in Belmont, Geelong

Orthotic devices are a specific treatment for many foot and lower limb conditions, helping people of all ages stay comfortable, moving and active.

At Active Podiatry and Orthotics, every orthotic is prescribed after a thorough clinical examination, including a biomechanical and gait assessment and a review of your footwear.

When orthotics are the right fit for you, they become part of a personalised treatment plan to correct or manage the underlying problem, so you can recover, stay on your feet and keep doing the things you love.

WHAT ARE ORTHOTICS?

Orthotics (also known as foot orthoses) are devices worn inside your footwear to improve foot function and lower limb biomechanics.

By applying targeted support to the foot, they help to:

• control excessive or abnormal joint motion

• improve the alignment of the foot and ankle

• redistribute pressure away from painful areas

• offload stressed soft tissues, joints and bones

• enhance stability, balance and muscle function

HOW DO ORTHOTICS WORK?

Your feet are the foundation of your body. When they aren't functioning efficiently, for example through excessive pronation, the effects can travel up the kinetic chain to the lower leg, knee, hip and lower back.

By improving foot alignment, orthotics help the whole lower limb move more efficiently. This can relieve pain, improve your gait and reduce the risk of injury recurring, keeping your feet healthy and active, ready for everyday life, work and sport.

THE ORTHOTIC OPTIONS WE PROVIDE

Active Podiatry and Orthotics in Belmont offers three levels of orthotic therapy.

We recommend the option that best suits your clinical needs, footwear, lifestyle and budget.

1

Prefabricated orthotics

(off-the-shelf)

Ready-made devices suited to mild biomechanical issues or short-term symptom relief.

Easily modified for better fit.

They are a cost-effective way to get started when appropriate.

2

Semi - custom orthotics

Prefabricated devices made by an orthotic laboratory that can be modified to suit the individual needs of your feet.

They offer greater support and correction than an off- the -shelf device, and are longer lasting.

3

Fully custom orthotics

Manufactured at a podiatric orthotic laboratory using a 3D scan of your feet and the individual prescription written by your podiatrist, based on your assessment.

Every element can be tailored, including shell material and stiffness, arch profile, heel cup depth, rearfoot and forefoot posting, width and top cover.

This option provides the most precise support, comfort and degree of correction, and also has the greatest durability.
